- now here is dan lore with the national news and your political report ~ Hello everyone my name is Dan and I'll be giving the national news report now. I dont think a lot of you people know Robert Goddard. Well he's a college professor and scientist and he is currently experimenting with rockets in New Mexico. It all started on March 16, 1926. He, his wife, and 2 assistants were testing the first mini liquid fuel rocket. It cantained a motor, gas and oxygen. They lit the rocket and it shot up into the air and stayed there traveling at 60 mph, for 3 seconds and then it crashed. Robert started to dream about space travel as a kid after he read War Of The Worlds, by H.G Wells and From Earth To The Moon, by Jules Verne. In Verne's book, people were catapulted into space inside a capsule launched by a big cannon. That didn't sound plausible to Robert. He decided that rockets were the solution. It took 10 years of experienting to make that mini rocket. He is now testing in New Mexico with different ideas like parachutes to guide rockets down to Earth smoothly, and his rockets are steadily improving. Robert Goddard may have never been able to continue with his experiments if it wasn't for Charles Augustus Lindbergh. Lindbergh was famous throughout the world. Here's why: in 1919, a wealthy hotel man offered a grand prize of 25,000 dollars to anyone who could fly from New York to Paris,or vice versa, nonstop. Some people tried, but were either injured, missing, or dead. Everyone failed. But in 1927, the competition got fierce. In April,R ichard E. Byrd took off, crashed, and broke his wrist. That same April, 2 pilots took off from Virginia, crashed, and died. Then in early May, 2 French aces took off, and were never heard of again. In the same May, newspapers were full of articles about the 3 planes being made ready. The pilots were Richard Byrn, eager to try again, 2 experienced pilots, and Charles Lindbergh with his plane, THE SPIRIT OF SAINT LOUIS. The plane got it's name from the 2 St. Louis business men who helped pay for the production of this plane. Charles back then wasn't vary widely known. He was a Barnstormer, or a person who goes around doing circles loops, and other trickes with his plane, and then taking people for a spin at $5 per person. Lindbergh was 25 years old and was the first man to fly the US mail from St. Louis to Chicago. on May 20th 1927, at 8:00 in the morning,Lindbergh took off. The weather wasn't very good, but he was too excited about winning. He carried with him a quart of water, extra fuel, a bag full of sandwiches, and a rubber raft. It took him 33 1/2 hours to arrive in Paris, but he made there safe. At 5:24 pm, on May 21st, Lindergh landed in paris and he became a world famous hero. Well, folks that's it for the national news. Next up is the political report.

We all probably know where to get some alcohal, even though it was prohibitied. In the early part of this decade, alcohal was prohibited by law, but bootleggers are making beer and smuggling it into the country, selling it to speekeasies, secret clubs that were made to have and sell beer. and we all have heard of Al Capone, the head of most liquour sells. He also was a gangster, Most people didn't know this, but the prohibitation lead to a growth in crime. Al Capone endeed up ging to Alcatraz, the badest of the bad jail. The criminals in the jail were so bad that it was located on a private island, so people could not get out. WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK!! SO DON'T GO ANYWHERE OTHER THAN NEXT TO THE RADIO!

welcome back we are here wih babe ruth What was your childhood like? My parents didn't care about me at all. I spent most of my time on the streets of Baltimore getting in trouble. I was then sent to a Catholic boys' home at 8.

What are your best memories from your baseball years? I have always loved the fans and they liked me because of my outgoing personality.

People are calling you the best AL lefty pitcher in the history of the AL. Is that true? I think it is good that some people are looking at my pitching career rather than just my hitting career. I really don't think people can say that about me because I haven't pitched my whole career.

How do you break all the records that you've broken? I have broken the same single season homerun 3 times and I have

the all time record for homeruns. The main reason I have broken these records is because I practice 25 out of 24 hours of the day. Another reason for my success is my love for the game. thank you so much for coming babe

- "Now it is time for our Negro League update."

Satchel Paige had an ERA of about 1.50.

Cool Papa Bell stole 175 bases in 250 games last season.

Josh Gibson has hit 70 HR last season.

Negro League earnings are goin up because people love to come see the players clown around and put on a circus show while playing baseball.

The next game between white allstar teams and the negro leaguers will take place on April 30th and MLB managers are already preparing their players for it.
