Alek Politics: (info. at www.whitehouse.gov)

Warren G. Harding was born in November 1965. In 1920 Warren G. Harding was elected the 29th president of the U.S. He won the election with 60 percent of the national vote. He was a Republican. Before he was elected president he was senate and luitenent governer for Ohio. Congress easily got him to pass Republic bills. Harding was misusing his powers of president by giving his friends unfair acess to personal information and other things. In August 1923 at age 57 Harding died of a heart attack in San Francisco.

In 1923, as result of Hardings death, Vice President Calvin Coolidge became the 30th president. Coolidge was born in July 1872. Coolidges first message as president was in December 1923 he wanted isolation in foreign policy. Also tax cuts, and aid with farmers. Coolidge rapidly became popular. In 1924 Coolidge got reelected with 54 percent of the popular vote. Coolidge was a negative remote president. He suprised everybody by announcing he was not running in the 1929 election. He was considered a great president. S.

Mitch Politics: Now i am going to talk about the 18th and 19th amendment. THe 18th amendmen t was put into effect on january 17 1920. THe 18h amendment satates that consumtion and distribution of intoxicating liqours is illegal in the u.s.. The amendment says that federal government would be responsible for the enforcement of it. Many Many people have been put in jail for illegal possetion of liqour. But also, many gangs and gangsters have risen because of the prohibition. Names such as Al Copone(we will have him on the show later tonight in The Weekly Interview) THe purple gang, and John Dillinger are examples of some of these gangs/gansters. They are prime concerns of the police right now because of their violent ways of selling liqour. We will talk more about the subject later in National News with ALan and I.

Now I will talkto you about the 19th amendment. Passed on August 26th 1920, the 19th amendment stated that "the right of citizens of the united states shall not be denied or abliged by by the united states or by any state on account of gender. THis ammendment cancelled out the rulling of the U.s. vs Anthony case which states that women do not have the right to vote. Although women can now vote, the crimanally insane and children still can't vote, sorry kids.

Nnnnnnnnannnnnnnnnannnnnnnnannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnational NNNNEWS Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiith Mitch and Alan…

On May 20, 1927, 25-year-old pilot Charles Augustus Lindbergh became the first man to fly solo, non-stop across the Atlantic. I don’t know if you remember or not, but tragically 14 people have died trying to repeat this amazing accomplishment.

On a warmer subject,

in one day, Silver Lake, CO got 76 in of SNOW!!(Roll Tap)

In the news of animation, Mortimer Mouse, inspired by Walt Disney and co-animator Ub Iwerks, was created in 1927. In 1928, they changed the ingenious character to Mickey Mouse. Mickey stared in Steamboat Willie, the first ever animated clip. Walt Disney himself playing the character’s voice. Mickey soon had many competitors such as Ko Ko the Clown, Felit the Cat, and also the spinach eating, muscle growing Popeye the sailor man. This has been a great cartoon decade.

Now for something serious. The 18th amendment was put into affect on January, 17th 1920. This amendment was well meant but so far it has made crime in the U.S. almost double in the past nine years. It is an amendment that prohibits all consumption of alchohol in the United States of America. Because drinking has almost become like smoking illegal drugs, it has become almost fashionable. More than 2,000 speakeasies have formed all over the country. Speakeasies are places, kind of like clubs where alchohol is sold and drunk. They their name by the way you get in (by password) and how you have to talk inside of them, Quiet so the police don;t hear you. many gangs and gaangsters have sprung because of prohibtion. names such as Al Capone, who we will be having on the show later tonight, and the purple gang and George Remus were all involved in the selling of alcohol. Police have been cracking down on these gangs and gangsters but they becoming to hard to handle.

Good 1930s and hears Alan and Alek with the interview of the week.

L: Boxing is a new sport for us in the 1920’s. The highlight of the year for boxing was the fight between Jack Dempsey “Manassa Mauler” and Gene Tunney. Jack Dempsey was expected to win but Gene Tunney pulled out a nice win to shock the fans. Then they had a rematch that had an amount of 130,000 people coming to watch this fight. It was a great fight, but Jack Dempsey won. I guess you can say that they are both great fighters huh?
