National News

Anna Kate and Joes

Anna Kate: Hi! I am Anna Kate Jones here with Joe Bridges and we have the history of the Negro Leagues of the 1920s. Today you'll hear about the Negro Leagues and there troubles with there money shotages and how they came over it! Over to you Joe!

Joe: Thats right! The Negro Leagues had much trouble getting money for there team because since they were black, they didn't have many supporters. You might have thought they had it good ith some of there good players like Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell. Well you thought wrong. They did everything to get money for there team, equipment and even there basebell feild. Did you know that the Negro teams had to rent feilds because they couldn't afford one for themselves? So to get money. many of the leagues decided to entertain the few fans by dressing up in weird and outragous costumes and play a game!

Anna Kate: Ha! That sounds pretty cool. Hey joe did you know that the Negro Leagues played up to 50 games a month!

Joe: No I didn't! That sounds pretty tough!

Anna Kate: Yup! The Negro Leagues had it tough all right but at least they were in it to just play the game of baseball! Well thats the SCOOP!!

Joe: Seeya!!! Next we're going to go to sports and entertainment

SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

JOE AND ISABELLE

Joe: Hi I am Joe Bridges here with Isabelle Culpepper on Sports and Entertainment.

I am going to talk about George Herman Ruth Also Known As " Babe Ruth." Babe Ruth was traded to the New York Yankees from the Boston Red Sox in 1919. Ruth didn't look athletic and he was a lefty. He played pitcher for the Red Sox but the Yankees moved him to right field so he could bat more. In his first year with the Yankees he hit 54 home runs and made $20,000. When Ruth went to the Yankees the attendance doubled and Yankee stadium was called "the house that Ruth built." In 1927 Ruth hit a record of 60 home runs in one season. Here is Isabelle Culpepper with the entertainment. Hi, I'm Isabelle here to talk to you about Warner Brothers. As you all know in 1927 they released the first ever "talkie". For those of you that have never seen one in these productions the actors talk as well as move. They received an Academy Award this year for bringing sound to The Jazz Singer. Which was the first "talkie". This year alone Warner Brothers released 86 features. So far Warner Bros. has amazed and entertained audiences more than ever thought possible. I'm sure they will continue to thrill audiences for years to come. Now Anna Kate and I will talk to you with the Political Report.

Anna Kate and Isabelle

Isabelle: Hey ya'll I'm Isabelle here with Anna Kate and tonight we are going to give you an update on the Prohibition. To those of you that manufacture, sell, of transport alcohol you are breaking the 18th amendment of the United Sates Constitution.

Anna Kate: Ya'll when they make a law it's for your own good so just follow it! It's not like you didn't know about this one.

Isabelle: That's true Anna Kate, anyone who isn't a hermit making whiskey in the mountains knows about this law, for the time being just follow it for your own good.

Anna Kate: Like all laws even this one has an exception, you can drink alcohol for medical reasons, but that does not mean you have to drink large quantities or go to speakeasies. Which as you know are illegal bars.

Isabelle: Now for the Bootleggers. (Sigh) This is important please stop killing people over the sales of alcohol!

Anna Kate: Wow they do that? They must be desperate!

Isabelle: I know you think I’m crazy. Right? Why would we want to loose thousands of dollars just because of a law?

Anna Kate: Well because this law is important. It could make our country a better, safer place to live.

Isabelle: Yeah I mean think of how much money you could save by not buying alcohol.

Anna Kate: Maybe enough to buy that watch you’ve always wanted or start saving for a new house. Think about how much money goes into one drink, a lot. Now think about what else you could use it for.

Isabelle: Anna Kate makes a good point, so just remember what we’ve said. Now on to Sports and Entertainment
