Birmingham Church Bombing

Katie Dragone

Hello, this is Elizabeth Blake reporting live from chanel 56. I am traveling on my way to Birmingham Alabama to report on the terrible Church Bombings there. The only information I have right now is that this dreadful accident happened on September 17, 1963. The bombs went off at 10:22 am.

I am now at the scene, 16th Street Baptist Church, the largest African American church in the city. I am now aware that The Ku Klux Klan organized this event because they were angry with integration happening within this city. This church was where many people came to talk about how they were integrating and think of plans.

As we all know life in the 1950 and 1960’ s for African Americans in southern places like Birmingham was bad. Segregation was everywhere. There was segregation in schools, on busses, in churches, different entrances and so on. But this is just terrible. In this church they were organizing integration.

Many people have been asking questions and everybody is very worried out here so I want to tell everyone what happened. During the Sunday worship ceremony the Ku Klux Klan lead by we think, Bobby Frank Cherry, Thomas Blanton, and Robert Chambliss. These suspects are not confirmed yet but we know that the Ku Klux Klan definitely organized it. Many people have been injured but 4 girls have been killed. Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair and Cynthia Wesley. May your prayers be with their families.

I would just like to say that the events that happened today are terrible and I believe completely in integration, I just wish everybody did. This event has affected everybody in the United States of America. We need to stand united against segregation. This terrible event has had an impact on today’s society and I hope that everybody tries to do something to prevent this from happening every again. This event affected everybody because everybody now knows how bad segregation is and hopefully will stop it. Thank you so much for listening, see you tomorrow night on chanel 56.
